A Professor of Economics at Yale, and President and Founder of Innovations for Poverty Action, Professor Dean Karlan research interests include poverty issues in developing countries and, in particular, financial innovations and microfinance programs aimed at the poor. He uses field experiments to learn what social policies work, what do not, and why.
